A Pug’s small size does not mean low care needs. Its flat-faced anatomy brings important welfare considerations, so the decision should start with health and comfort rather than appearance. Arrange an independent veterinary discussion before committing to a puppy.
Daily care and routine
PDSA highlights breathing difficulties, eye problems and skin-fold issues in Pugs, as well as increased concern during hot weather. Ask a veterinarian about the individual dog’s breathing and available screening, and about a suitable activity and care plan. A photograph cannot show whether a puppy will breathe comfortably. Do not choose for exaggerated facial features or treat noisy breathing as proof that everything is normal.
Questions for your household
Think carefully about your ability to provide company, attentive daily care and veterinary support. Include future care costs and summer arrangements in the conversation. Review records with a qualified professional and consider whether another dog could be a better fit for your circumstances; a small companion should still be chosen with long-term welfare in mind.
Ask about the individual puppy
Request current photographs, age, care routine and available records for the specific puppy. Ask who bred and raised it and what information exists about its parents. Read our before-booking checklist, then discuss a written quotation and applicable terms. Website illustrations are not live inventory, and sending an enquiry does not reserve a puppy.
