A Maltese is a small companion dog with a silky white coat. Its size can make it appealing for a smaller home, but it still needs time, gentle handling and a realistic daily care plan. Choose by the needs of the individual dog rather than a photograph or an informal size label.
Coat care is part of the daily routine
AKC guidance describes a long coat that needs daily gentle brushing and combing to prevent tangles. Discuss a manageable coat length, tools and grooming appointments with an experienced groomer. Ask a veterinarian about an appropriate dental-care routine. Before enquiring, decide who will handle this care and how it will fit into your weekly budget and schedule.
Company, training and household handling
Maltese are companion-oriented dogs. AKC guidance highlights consistent reward-based training and the importance of company; discuss how the individual puppy will gradually adjust to your routine. Small size calls for careful handling, particularly around children and larger animals. Plan supervised introductions, suitable play and outings, and a safe resting space. A breed description cannot promise an individual dog’s behaviour or suitability.
Before discussing a puppy
Request current photos, age, routine and available records for the specific puppy. Ask who bred and raised it and what information is available about the parents. Review our before-booking checklist, request a written quotation and clarify applicable terms before deciding. Website illustrations do not show current inventory, and an enquiry does not reserve a puppy.
